Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

We would like to inform you that due to continued enrolment growth in the regular program at Captain John Palliser School, the school will be unable to accommodate all students who live within the designated school boundary. For this reason, an overflow school will be established for this school year, and a designation change will be made for the 2024-25 school year.

Effective immediately, any new regular program registrations for Captain John Palliser School from the Brentwood community, west of Northland Dr. NW (also known as Northland Village), that cannot be accommodated will be overflowed to Dr. E.W. Coffin School for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year.

Effective for the 2024-25 school year and beyond, regular program students residing in Northland Village will be re-designated from Captain John Palliser School to Dr. E.W. Coffin School (see attached map).

• Dr. E.W. Coffin School is located at 5615 Barrett Dr. NW, Calgary, AB T2L 1W4
• Current kindergarten to Grade 5 students attending Captain John Palliser School who will be in Grades 1 to 6 for the 2024-25 school year and reside in Northland Village can remain at Captain John Palliser School until they transition to middle school or can transfer to Dr. E.W. Coffin School.
  • Families residing in Northland Village should inform their school principal of their choice to either remain at Captain John Palliser School or transfer to Dr. E.W. Coffin School by Feb. 15, 2024.
• All new kindergarten to Grade 6 regular program registrations for the 2024-25 school year from Northland Village will be designated to Dr. E.W. Coffin School. Siblings currently attending Captain John Palliser School who have siblings who will be designated to Dr. E.W. Coffin may transfer to Dr. E.W. Coffin School to be with their siblings. New student registrations who have been overflowed to Dr. E.W. Coffin School will remain designated to Dr. E.W. Coffin School.

Why is this change happening?

There have been continued registrations for the regular program at Captain John Palliser School. For this reason, changes must be put in place to ensure the school remains at its capacity and for the safety of students and staff.

What about the Montessori Program?

Earlier this year, a decision was made to adjust the Montessori program boundary for the 2024-25 school year to improve access to the program for students in northeast Calgary. The Montessori program at Captain John Palliser School has historically been and will remain capped. Should student registrations for Montessori exceed spaces and resources available for the program, the lottery process will be followed.

How do I register for school next year?  

Kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year starts Jan. 15, 2024. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.  

How will students get to school? 

Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk distance. Students residing in Northland Village are within the walk distance for Captain John Palliser School and Dr. E.W. Coffin School, and no transportation service will be provided.
