Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
Due to continued growth in Calgary, there is a need to balance enrolment at Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools. For this reason, regular program students attending Grades 5 and 6 residing in the Hamptons community will be re-designated from Captain John Palliser School to The Hamptons School. This change will allow students from the Hamptons community to remain at the same elementary school until junior high.
These changes will be phased in over two years. Effective for the 2025-26 school year, The Hamptons School will expand by one grade per year:
School Year | Current | 2025-26 | 2026-27 and beyond |
Grade Configuration | Kindergarten to Grade 4 | Kindergarten to Grade 5 | Kindergarten to Grade 6 |
- Current kindergarten to Grade 4 students who reside in the Hamptons community will continue to attend The Hamptons School until they complete Grade 6.
- Current Grade 5 students attending Captain John Palliser School, who will be in Grade 6 for the 2025-26 school year, will remain at Captain John Palliser School until they transition to junior high.
- All new registrations for students entering Grade 6 in the 2025-26 school year will be designated to Captain John Palliser School.
- Current Grade 6 students attending Captain John Palliser School, who will be in Grade 7 for the 2025-26 school year, will transition to their designated junior high school.
Why is this change happening?
The CBE is experiencing continued enrolment growth. To address this, changes are being made to balance enrolment across our schools. These changes will help alleviate current and anticipated enrolment pressures, reduce the number of school transitions and allow Hamptons students to attend school close to home with their community cohorts.
How do I register for school next year?
Registration for kindergarten and new CBE registrations for the 2025-26 school year begins in January 2025. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.
How will students get to school?
Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk zone. In the CBE and across the city, we are experiencing a school bus driver shortage that may impact the mode of service provided. Please be assured that we are doing everything possible to restore the reliability of transportation services. Visit Busing & Transportation for important transportation information, and to register for transportation, visit MyCBE.
What if I have more questions?
Please contact your principal if you have questions regarding these changes. If you still have questions or require additional information, please contact the Area 1 office at Area1@cbe.ab.ca or 403-777-8710 (extension 0).
