June 7, 2024
A heartfelt thank you to the school council for hosting last night’s Family Picnic event. We also extend our gratitude to the families who were able to join us for an evening filled with delicious food, lively music, fun games and wonderful camaraderie. Events like these offer fantastic opportunities to connect and get to know one another better. Always nice when the weather is agreeable…
Water Main Break in NW Calgary
On the evening of Wednesday, June 5 an extensive water main break occurred in the community of Bowness. The City of Calgary says this is a significant break on a critical water main that moves water across the city. The City of Calgary has issued an advisory regarding water conservation across Calgary and a boil water advisory for the community of Bowness. CBE schools are doing their part to conserve water.
As always, CBE takes direction from the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA). More information will be shared as the situation evolves.
While this situation is not ideal, students and staff are safe and at this time it is expected that schools will continue to be open. We know these events may impact some of you personally. We thank you for pulling together to support each other and the impacted school communities.
Transportation Deadline - Apply by June 16 for School bus Transportation
Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2024-2025 school year. Service levels and proposed fees will remain the same as the current school year.
Registration is available using your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how to create one.)
Families must register by Sunday, June 16 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.
Bike/Scooter to School Day – Thursday, June 13th
Dear Families,
We are excited that CJP will participate in Ride Your Bike or Scooter to School on Thursday, June 13th. Students are invited to participate by biking or scootering from home to school or driving closer to school and riding the rest of the distance. Ride Your Bike or Scooter to School Day encourages students to become active and engaged with the outdoors.
Students can keep their bikes and helmets at school in the gym for the day. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 will enter through the south gym door (facing Northmount Drive) and students in Grades 4 to 6 will enter through the west gym door (door closest to the staff parking lot).
The students will enter the door and drop their bikes or scooters off inside the gym by their designated classroom spot marked with a number. Please note which door your child takes their bike or scooter in as they will be exiting through this door at the end of the day to meet you outside. Due to the volume of people participating, students are asked to independently bring their bikes or scooters in and out of the gym. Teachers and volunteers will be assisting students in parking and retrieving their bikes or scooters. All doors will be labelled. If your child is leaving their bike or scooter and helmet at school, please label them with their name and room number.
We are looking for parent volunteers with CBE police clearance checks to help usher the students into the doors, help park their bikes or scooters, and cheer them on! If you are able to volunteer in the morning from 8:40 am to 9:20 am and/or 3:40 pm to 4 pm. Please sign up via the volunteer opportunity link located in the school council message below.

From CJP School Council
Family Spring Picnic: We hope everyone had a wonderful time at this week’s spring picnic. It’s such a pleasure to see our community come together and get the chance to connect with each other. Thanks to DJ Havoc for providing the music and to everyone who volunteered to help out on this event. Have a great summer everyone!
Fun Lunch: Today, Friday, June 7, is the deadline to order McDonalds for the last Fun Lunch of the school year on Wednesday, June 12! For families who have students in Ms. Keil & Ms. Pabst's classrooms, due to a conflicting field trip, their lunches will be delivered fresh on the following day, Thursday, June 13.
Fundraising Survey: We would love your input on the various fundraisers the Parents Association ran this year, whether you participated or not. This information will help inform our decisions around next year's fundraisers. Please complete this survey: https://forms.gle/h5eJHrw7UKjFvseV6 (your responses are anonymous). Your feedback is valuable to us!
Bike and Scooter to School Day: Let's Cheer on our Students!
June 13th Bike and Scooter to School Day returns.
CJP is still looking for parent/guardian volunteer help to cheer on students as they arrive in the morning and to receive and usher students into the school doors and help park their bikes or scooters. Afternoon volunteers will also be needed to help students collect their bikes or scooters as they leave for home.
PATs Volunteer Readers: PATs Are Quickly Approaching!
CJP has students who need reading support during their PATs on June 19th & 20th. We're looking for adult volunteers with a CBE security clearance to read the provincial achievement exams to individuals or pairs of students.
Library Support: We Love New Books!
Ms. Moss has been tirelessly working on updating our library and could really use some volunteer support to complete the job before the end of the school year. Tasks would include stamping and labeling new books.
Volunteer Opportunities can be found at www.CJPPA.ca/volunteer
Volunteers must have a valid CBE Security Clearance.
School Council and Parents Association: We are still looking for Events Coordinators and Fundraising Coordinators to join next year's team! If either of these interest you, please reach out to cjpparentassociation@gmail.com
Casino Fundraiser: Save the Date! Our Casino Fundraiser is set for Oct 1st & 2nd at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino! This major event supports our school by funding initiatives like Mobile Escape Residency, the upcoming Robotics Residency, field trip transportation, books, music supplies and more. Your volunteer efforts at this event have a big impact!
Mural Survey: Captain John Palliser School is inviting local artists to submit proposals to create original artwork for outdoor murals on the front of the school. Students were asked to contribute their thoughts and ideas around belonging and community to be used as inspiration for the commissioned artists. We would now like to open up some of these questions to the greater community of CJP. https://forms.gle/WqxGD5DWcJ3at2K48
Sincerely,
Oliver Fisher
